Nigerian Army troops have intensified operations in Katsina State, destroying terrorist camps, rescuing a kidnapped victim, and recovering hundreds of stolen livestock during Operation CLEAN SWEEP.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 17 Brigade Strike Group and Quick Response Force alongside elements of the 8 Division Special Forces. According to the Army, the offensive is aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts, disrupting criminal networks, and restoring security across affected communities in the North-West.
On the fourth day of the operation, troops launched a coordinated clearance mission against terrorist strongholds in and around Tuga village in Matazu Local Government Area. The operation was supported by real-time intelligence and surveillance as well as precision air strikes by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
During the mission, troops recovered a large number of rustled animals believed to have been stolen by terrorists. The recovered livestock included 36 cattle, 280 sheep, and two donkeys. Military authorities said the recovery dealt a significant blow to the economic activities that sustain the criminal groups.
Troops later advanced into the notorious Fafu Forest under a strategy designed to deny terrorists safe havens. Following coordinated aerial and artillery bombardments, soldiers moved into the targeted area and destroyed several terrorist camps and concealed hideouts located within difficult terrain.
While searching the area, troops discovered a hideout linked to a notorious terrorist leader where kidnapped victims were allegedly held. Two bodies were recovered at the site, while one victim, identified as Nura Yar’Adua, was found in chains and rescued. He received first aid before being evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, for further medical treatment.
The Army said further assessments showed that terrorist logistics structures were destroyed and evidence of enemy casualties was observed within the targeted locations. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and maintaining national security, while urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
