President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the Federal Civil Service in a move aimed at strengthening teaching in Federal Unity Colleges and improving the quality of education across the country.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the approval in a statement issued on Thursday through his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah. He said priority would be given to verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for nearly 25 years, giving them the opportunity to become permanent public servants.
According to the minister, the recruitment followed a comprehensive verification exercise carried out by an inter-ministerial committee, which confirmed the eligibility of 3,252 teachers across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers, and Technical Instructors. He described the approval as one of the Tinubu administration’s major efforts to strengthen the education sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Alausa said bringing experienced PTA teachers into the federal workforce would improve the teacher-to-student ratio, preserve institutional knowledge, strengthen classroom instruction, and enhance learning outcomes in Federal Unity Colleges. He added that the exercise also recognizes the long-standing contributions of thousands of PTA teachers who have supported learning despite years of job uncertainty.
The minister assured all verified PTA teachers that the regularisation process would be conducted with transparency, fairness, and due diligence. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the teaching profession, improving learning outcomes, and ensuring that students in Federal Unity Colleges receive quality education from qualified and dedicated teachers. The approval also responds to long-standing appeals from teachers and education stakeholders, who had called for the regularisation of PTA teachers to reduce the financial burden on parents and provide greater job security.
