President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Paul Kagame have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Rwanda. The two leaders met at the Urugwiro Presidential Villa in Kigali shortly after Tinubu’s arrival for the Africa CEO Forum.
During the meeting, both presidents stressed the need to revive the Joint Permanent Ministerial Commission signed by the two countries in 2021. They agreed that the commission remains important in promoting cooperation and achieving shared goals, while Nigeria is expected to host the next meeting.
President Tinubu also said Nigeria would consider giving Rwandans a 30-day visa-free entry, similar to the arrangement already granted to Nigerians by Rwanda. The two leaders further discussed the activation of pending agreements in tourism, anti-corruption, and the fight against illicit drugs as part of efforts to strengthen African unity and economic cooperation.
The presidents also exchanged ideas on implementing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement between both countries. Nigeria is currently discussing with RwandAir to improve export opportunities for Nigerian businesses across Africa, following the air cargo corridor earlier established with Uganda Airlines.
