The Kebbi State Government has commenced the distribution of food assistance to thousands of displaced and vulnerable households, with support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The relief package, tagged “Food Basket,” includes 25kg bags of rice and beans, spaghetti, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, salt, and other essential food items. The items are intended for people affected by banditry and flooding across the state.
Flagging off the distribution exercise in Bulasa, Birnin Kebbi, on Thursday, Governor Nasir Idris commended KSrelief and NEMA for their continued humanitarian support to residents of the state.
The governor said the two organisations have consistently provided assistance to displaced persons and victims of natural disasters over the years. He described NEMA as an agency known for integrity and praised KSrelief for its globally recognized humanitarian efforts.
Governor Idris noted that both organisations have always responded promptly whenever disasters occur, helping affected communities with relief materials. He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items and warned them against selling the assistance provided.
Speaking at the event, NEMA Director-General Hajiya Zubaida Umar, represented by the Director of Special Duties, Mrs. Fatima Kasim, described the programme as another example of the strong humanitarian partnership between NEMA and KSrelief. She said the Saudi-based organisation has remained a reliable partner in supporting vulnerable people across Nigeria.
According to her, KSrelief donated a total of 24,302 food baskets for distribution in Kebbi, Benue, Anambra, Yobe, and Taraba states. She disclosed that 4,399 registered households in Kebbi will benefit from the intervention and recalled that the organisation had previously provided critical support to internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups in the state.
