Mohammed Salisu Auwal, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Media Studies, has expressed support for Barrister Abba Dahiru Mangal’s bid to represent Katsina Central Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In an opinion article sent to Hikaya Newspaper on Friday, June 24, 2026, Auwal said the 2027 election would offer voters in Katsina Central an opportunity to choose the kind of representation they want. He argued that public office should be based on competence, character, and the ability to deliver results rather than on what he described as politics as usual.
According to him, Barrister Mangal possesses the administrative experience and strategic thinking needed to represent the constituency effectively at the National Assembly. He said the constituency requires a lawmaker who understands policymaking, budgeting, and the legislative process, and who can attract federal projects in areas such as education, healthcare, roads, and agriculture.
Auwal also highlighted youth development as a major reason for his support. He said young people make up a large share of Katsina State’s population and should be treated as partners in governance. He expressed the view that Mangal’s record demonstrates commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, entrepreneurship, and information and communication technology, adding that effective representation should promote opportunities for young people through legislation and government programmes.
The media and governance advocate further stated that quality representation should be measured by service delivery, accessibility, and accountability. He said the challenges facing Katsina Central, including insecurity, unemployment, out-of-school children, and healthcare, require practical legislative action, effective oversight, and constituency-focused projects.
He also noted that decisions made in the House of Representatives influence many aspects of national life, including education, agriculture, security, and media-related policies. In his view, electing capable representatives is important for strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that constituents have an effective voice in national affairs.
Auwal concluded by describing the Centre for Media Studies as a non-partisan organisation committed to promoting credible leadership and youth participation in governance. He said his endorsement reflected his personal assessment that Barrister Abba Dahiru Mangal has the capacity to serve the people of Katsina Central effectively if elected in 2027.
