Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued nine kidnapped victims, recovered 56 rustled livestock, and arrested a suspected terrorist during separate security operations in Katsina State.
According to the Joint Task Force, troops of Sector 2 rescued the victims during a fighting patrol in Faskari Local Government Area. The rescued group included three women, four men, and two children. Preliminary findings showed that they were abducted by terrorists on 9 July 2026 along the Tsafe–Kuchere Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The victims told security personnel that they escaped from the terrorists’ camp after their captors fell asleep before they were found by the troops. They are now in safe custody and are being prepared for reunification with their families.
In a separate intelligence-led operation in Bakori Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to rustle livestock. On sighting the soldiers, the attackers opened fire, but the troops responded effectively, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bush. The operation led to the recovery of 56 rustled animals, comprising four cattle and 52 sheep, which are being kept in military custody pending their handover to the appropriate authorities.
The task force also announced the arrest of a suspected terrorist during routine operational activities in Danmusa Local Government Area. Preliminary examination of items recovered from the suspect indicated possible links to terrorist activities. The suspect remains in military custody while further investigations continue.
The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their professionalism, vigilance, and determination in carrying out the operations.
