Katsina Govt Supports some Jibia Farmers with over ₦2.9 Million

The Katsina state government has provided financial support to farmers in Jibia, whose farms were destroyed to make way for the construction of 152 houses for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The support, totaling ₦2,996,000, was presented by Professor Abdulhamid Ahmed, Commissioner of the Ministry of Rural and Social Development, on behalf of the state government. According to Professor Ahmed, the support is not compensation, but rather a gesture of goodwill, considering that the eight hectares of land affected are owned by the government.

“The decision to provide support was made after the launch of the IDP housing project at the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) in Jibia. Governor Dikko Umar Radda approved the support, with each of the eight hectares receiving ₦374,500,” Professor Ahmed said.

Hon. Sa’idu Ibrahim Danja, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Victims of Banditry and Internally Displaced Persons, praised the state government’s decision to support the affected farmers. He emphasized the importance of building the 152 houses for IDPs in Jibia.

Alhaji Rabe Rabi’u Ibrahim, Sarkin Arewan Katsina and District Head of Jibia, expressed his satisfaction with the state government’s efforts to support the community. He praised the luxury houses being built for IDPs and urged the farmers to use the financial support wisely.

The financial assistance meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including the Secretary of Jibia Local Government, Malam Muhammad Lawal, and the Secretary of Jibia People’s Forum, Malam Bishir Lawal.

Following the meeting, Professor Abdulhamid Ahmed, Hon. Sa’idu Ibrahim Danja, and Alhaji Gide Dahiru, Chairman of Jibia People’s Forum, visited the construction site to inspect the progress of the IDPs housing project.

The Katsina state government’s support for the Jibia farmers demonstrates its commitment to mitigating the impact of development projects on local communities.
