The Chairman of the Adhoc Committee on NAHCON, Hon. Sada Soli, has written to Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), emphasizing the importance of a collaborative environment in the Commission.
Hon. Sada Soli stressed that the NAHCON Board’s composition and functioning, as outlined in Section 3 of the NAHCON Establishment Act, require a collaborative approach. The Board comprises both full-time and part-time members, ensuring diverse representation and gender inclusion.
The input from various ministries, including Internal Affairs, Finance, Aviation, Foreign Affairs, and Health, is essential for holistic governance and operational effectiveness. Additionally, representation from the Central Bank of Nigeria, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, and the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs is crucial.
Hon. Sada Soli noted that all NAHCON Board members are equal appointees of the President, with equal status. He urged Professor Usman to facilitate regular meetings that encourage open discussion, allowing each member to contribute their insights and expertise.
The Chairman of the Adhoc Committee on NAHCON emphasized the importance of inclusivity and engagement, ensuring that all members of the Board feel a sense of belonging. He recommended reviewing the current policies on allowances to ensure fair compensation for all members.
Hon. Sada Soli also stressed the need for regular communication between part-time and full-time members, as well as encouraging feedback from all members regarding policies and decisions.
To foster a collaborative environment, Professor Usman was advised to include all segments of the Board in official trips, such as the upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj Conference 2025.
Hon. Sada Soli emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and openness in the Commission’s operations. He recommended launching a robust media campaign to demonstrate NAHCON’s commitment to transparency.
The Chairman of the Adhoc Committee on NAHCON concluded by urging Professor Usman to prioritize enhancing staff capabilities, addressing internal conflicts, and embodying leadership qualities that inspire and motivate the organization.
By implementing these suggestions, Professor Usman can enhance the operational capabilities of NAHCON and foster a positive and productive organizational culture.
