The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed a suit filed by a faction of the People’s Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki, which challenged the cancellation of their leadership congress held in Ibadan.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Stephen Adah said the congress held on November 15 and 16, 2025, was in violation of an earlier order of the Federal High Court. He noted that Justice James Omotosho had restrained the group from conducting the meeting, but the Turaki faction went ahead with it.
The Supreme Court also faulted the faction for approaching a court without proper jurisdiction instead of the Court of Appeal. It therefore upheld the earlier ruling of the appellate court which nullified the PDP congress in Oyo State, with three out of five justices agreeing with the decision.
