The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has restated the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure in line with its statutory mandate.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that this came following the derailment of a Kaduna-bound passenger train with 618 passengers on board at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.
Deploying a tactical team of officers to the scene, Audi emphasized that the NSCDC remains dedicated to civilian protection through rescue operations, emergency response, and disaster management.
He also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the accident scene alongside other security stakeholders, calling for stronger measures to ensure the safety of the rail corridor and prevent future incidents.
The NSCDC boss commended the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, for his resilience and assured that the Corps will hold accountable anyone found sabotaging railway installations or compromising public safety.
