SDP Mourns Buhari, Urges Nigerians to Uphold His Legacy

The Katsina State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Nigerian President, General Muhammadu Buhari, describing the news as a great loss to the nation and a moment of reflection for its democratic future.

According to a press release issued on Friday, May 18, 2025, and signed by Mustapha Muhammed Kurfi, the State Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the State Chairman, Alhaji Bello Adamu Safana, stated that the party praised Buhari as a committed statesman and exemplary politician whose life and leadership continue to inspire many.

The SDP lauded the late president’s lifelong dedication to public service, highlighting his transition from a respected military leader to a civilian president who showed deep patriotism and unwavering commitment to national development. According to the party, Buhari’s integrity, humility, and resilience marked him out as a rare figure in Nigerian politics, especially as the first opposition candidate to defeat a sitting president through democratic elections.

Alhaji Safana urged politicians and citizens across the country to emulate the late president’s ideals of honesty, modesty, and discipline in both public and private life. The party extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s immediate family, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire nation, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
