Leaders of Nigeria’s major opposition blocs under the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) have formally applied for the registration of a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future general elections.
According to Hikaya Newspaper, the coalition submitted its registration request to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on June 19, 2025. The letter, addressed to INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, was signed by ADA’s National Chairman, Chief Akin Ricketts, and Acting Secretary, Abdullahi Musa Elayo. The commission acknowledged receipt of the letter on June 20.
The applicants stated, “We urge INEC to grant our request to recognise our All Democratic Alliance as a political party.” The party’s symbol is a corn, and its motto is Justice for All.
Among the key figures leading the coalition effort are former President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate Presidents David Mark and Umar Ardo. The formation of ADA signals a renewed attempt by opposition leaders to unite and present a strong alternative to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
