Alhaji Nura DMG, an activist and opposition leader in Jibia, Katsina State, has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) along with 1,000 supporters.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the announcement was made during a meeting held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, where DMG symbolically removed the PDP mural from his political office and replaced it with the APC emblem.
During the event, DMG emphasized that his decision to switch parties was driven by a desire to better serve his supporters and contribute to political progress. He praised the leadership of Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda, highlighting his efforts in promoting security, peace, and infrastructure development in the region.
DMG also commended the work of Hon. Sada Soli, the House of Representatives member for Kaita and Jibia Local Governments, noting his commitment to community support, particularly through scholarship programs for local students. Additionally, he expressed confidence in the governance of Jibia Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sirajo Ado, citing his dedication to advancing security, education, health, agriculture, and business in the area.
The defection was welcomed by Alhaji Usman Sale Marini, Chairman of the Sada Soli Support Foundation, who assured DMG of a warm reception within the APC. Marini encouraged DMG to work diligently for the party’s progress, similar to his previous contributions while in the PDP.
Alhaji Nasiru Hussaini, representing the Chairman of Jibia Local Government, expressed satisfaction with DMG’s return to the APC, viewing it as a testament to the party’s effective governance. He noted that DMG’s political influence had posed a challenge to the APC in the past, and his return would strengthen the party’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.
Fahad Yunusa Dalibi, the Special Adviser on Youth Affairs to the Chairman of Jibia Local Government, praised DMG as a champion for community development. He affirmed that the youth of Jibia are eager to collaborate with DMG to further sustainable development initiatives in the area.
Alhaji Usman Rocket, an APC member and local resident, also expressed support for DMG’s decision, recognizing him as a leading politician capable of making meaningful contributions to the APC’s development. He conveyed a readiness among local supporters to unite with DMG to advance the community’s interests.
The meeting concluded with various local leaders, including Comrade Abubakar Lawal, the Chairmanship aspirant of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in Jibia, expressing their joy over DMG’s defection to the APC, marking a pivotal moment in the local political landscape.
