The Social Democratic Party (SDP), Katsina State Chapter, has urged Nigerians to carefully assess the records, competence, integrity, programmes and commitments of political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
In a statement signed by the party’s Katsina State Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Bello Safana, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the SDP called on Nigerians to participate actively and responsibly in the democratic process and make informed choices based on the national interest.
The party made the call while felicitating with the Government and people of Nigeria, both at home and in the diaspora, on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary. It described the anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate Nigeria’s journey as a nation while reflecting on the political, economic and social challenges facing the country.
The SDP also called for peaceful, credible and transparent elections in 2027, urging Nigerians to reject electoral violence, vote-buying, intimidation and other forms of electoral malpractice. It said every citizen’s vote has a role in determining the direction of the country’s democracy.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, social justice, good governance, accountability, peace, unity and inclusive development, while urging citizens to remain committed to the democratic process.
The Katsina SDP further prayed for lasting peace, security, unity and prosperity in Nigeria, and called for wisdom, justice and sincerity among the country’s leaders. It concluded by wishing Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary and expressing hope for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
