PDP Candidate Nur Khalil Pledges Security, Jobs, Education

Engr. Mohammed Nur Khalil, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Katsina South Senatorial District in the 2027 election, has pledged to make security, education, job creation and community development key priorities if elected.

Khalil made the pledge in a statement on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, as the campaign period for Presidential and National Assembly candidates officially began. He described the campaign as more than a political exercise, saying it marked the beginning of what he called a commitment to purposeful representation and service to the people of Katsina South.

He said insecurity and banditry remain among the most urgent challenges facing communities across the senatorial district. According to him, the situation has affected farmers, disrupted education, displaced residents, weakened livelihoods and created fear in communities.

Khalil promised that, if elected, he would use his constitutional and legislative powers to advocate for stronger security measures, improved intelligence gathering, better coordination among security agencies and stronger response capacity. He also said he would support community-based security initiatives and sustained federal attention to the security challenges affecting the district.

The PDP candidate said addressing insecurity must also involve tackling its underlying causes, including youth unemployment, poverty, limited educational opportunities and inadequate access to sustainable livelihoods. He argued that long-term security would be difficult to achieve without creating opportunities that enable young people to build productive futures.

He outlined five major priorities for his proposed representation: security and peace; quality education; economic growth and job creation; youth and women empowerment; and infrastructure and community development. He said these areas would guide his legislative work, oversight responsibilities and engagement with government programmes.

On education, Khalil pledged to advocate for improved access to quality learning, skills development and vocational training. He also promised to support policies that create opportunities for farmers, traders, entrepreneurs, artisans, women and young people, while seeking investment and infrastructure such as roads, water, healthcare, electricity and telecommunications.

Khalil also promised to remain accessible and consult widely with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, farmers, women, young people, professionals, businesspeople and other stakeholders. He said he would view a Senate seat not as a position of privilege but as a responsibility entrusted to him by the electorate.

He called on supporters and other political actors to conduct the campaign peacefully and respectfully, urging them to reject hatred and division. He said political disagreements should not turn citizens into enemies because, regardless of the outcome of the election, Katsina South would remain a shared home for its people.

Khalil acknowledged that one person could not solve every problem but pledged to continue advocating for the interests of the people if given the mandate. He asked for their support, prayers, trust and partnership, expressing hope that together they could strengthen security, expand opportunities and give Katsina South a stronger voice at the National Assembly.

He concluded by pledging that the security, prosperity and dignity of the people would remain central to his proposed representation. He prayed for Allah to protect the people of Katsina South, restore lasting peace, guide the country’s leaders and grant what he described as victory in the interest of the people and future generations.
