Government Day Junior Secondary School Jibia has held a graduation ceremony for its JSS 3 students, while also honouring individuals and students who made notable contributions and achievements.
The ceremony was organised to celebrate students who completed their junior secondary education, while strengthening relationships and cooperation among teachers, students, parents, community leaders and other education stakeholders.
The school’s Principal, Malam Surajo Mu’azu, described the ceremony as the first of its kind since the school was established in 1983, despite having graduated different groups of students over the years. He said the event was organised to celebrate the successful completion of JSS 3 by the students, honour individuals who contributed to the development of the school, and recognise students who demonstrated outstanding abilities in different areas.
He added that the ceremony provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and abilities they had developed in school through academic presentations, sporting activities and cultural displays, particularly Hausa-Fulani traditions. Students who excelled in these activities received awards to encourage them and motivate other students to remain committed to their education and develop their talents.
Alhaji Najib Yusuf, who represented the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Katsina State, Hon. Yusuf Suleiman, commended the school for organising the graduation ceremony. He said the Katsina State Government, under Governor Dikko Umar Radda, had continued to give priority to education through school renovations, recruitment of teachers and provision of teaching and learning materials. He said these efforts were helping to create a better learning environment and improve teaching in line with modern educational needs.
The Secretary of Jibia Local Government Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal (Sarkin Noma), who represented the Chairman of Jibia Local Government, Hon. Sirajo Ado, assured the gathering that the local government would continue to provide appropriate support towards the development of education. He stressed the importance of cooperation between government, schools, parents and the community in creating a better learning environment and helping students achieve their educational goals.
The Sarkin Arewan Katsina and District Head of Jibia, Alhaji Rabe Rabi’u Ibrahim, also commended the school for its efforts in providing students with quality education, training and moral guidance. He said schools have an important role to play in shaping the future of young people and called on teachers, parents and the wider community to continue supporting students in their education and character development.
Certificates of Award of Honour were presented to prominent politicians, businesspeople and other members of the community who had contributed to the development of the school. Outstanding students who demonstrated their talents during the ceremony were also recognised, highlighting the importance of education, skills, culture and cooperation in community development.
