The Katsina State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Sahalu Zubairu as a member of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KATSIEC) following his successful screening by the lawmakers.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the confirmation followed a request submitted by the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, CON, seeking the Assembly’s approval of the appointment. During the plenary session held on June 29, 2026, and presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, the Majority Leader representing Danja Local Government Area formally presented Sahalu Zubairu’s name for screening.
During the exercise, Alhaji Sahalu Zubairu appeared before the House and presented a brief account of his educational background, professional experience, and contributions to community development. Lawmakers also questioned him on his qualifications, experience, and plans for discharging his responsibilities if confirmed.
Contributing during the session, the member representing Kaita Local Government Area, Hon. Sirajo Abdullahi Kwaskwaro, appealed to his colleagues to shorten the screening process. He described Alhaji Sahalu as a man of integrity who has made significant contributions to the development of Kaita Local Government Area and Katsina State.
After the screening, members of the Assembly expressed satisfaction with his competence and suitability for the position and unanimously approved his appointment as a member of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission. The House expressed confidence that he would contribute meaningfully to strengthening the Commission and improving the electoral process in the state.
Speaking after the confirmation, the Chairman of the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Kabir Magaji Gafiya, thanked Governor Dikko Umar Radda for the appointment. He described Alhaji Sahalu as a competent and dedicated individual and expressed confidence that he would use his experience to enhance the work of KATSIEC and support democratic development in the state.
In his remarks, Alhaji Sahalu Zubairu expressed gratitude to Governor Dikko Umar Radda and the Katsina State House of Assembly for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to discharge his duties with honesty, fairness, and dedication, promising to work diligently to justify the trust placed in him and contribute to the continued development of Katsina State.
