Suspected gunmen on Tuesday night attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and reportedly carted away weapons belonging to officers on duty.
The attack was said to have occurred at about 10 p.m., creating panic among residents living around the area as gunshots and commotion disrupted the usually quiet environment.
Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the attackers stormed the immigration facility and overpowered security personnel before making away with firearms assigned to officers on duty.
An immigration officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly on the matter, confirmed the attack in a message sent to Daily Trust on Wednesday evening.
The officer, however, did not provide details on the number of gunmen involved in the operation or whether any officers or civilians were injured during the attack.
Residents of the area expressed concern over the incident, describing it as a serious security challenge. They called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect public institutions and prevent similar attacks in the future.
As of the time of filing this report, the authorities had not issued any official statement regarding the attack, while investigations into the incident were expected to continue.
