SDP Backs Katsina Emir’s Remarks on Nigeria’s Challenges

The Katsina State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Bello Adamu Safana, has expressed the party’s support for the Katsina Emir’s remarks on the challenges facing Nigeria.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that Safana made this known during a press conference held at the SDP state headquarters in Kofar Kaura, Katsina, on Sunday, October 26, 2026. The event was attended by the party’s secretary, Jibrin Bala Umar, the SDP governorship candidate in Katsina State, Dr. Magaji Aliyu Dansarai, and other party officials.

Safana said, “What the Emir of Katsina said before the campaign committee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was consistent with the policies of the SDP and the views of the party’s candidates. Anyone who is uncomfortable with the truth that was spoken should reflect on the importance of the remarks to the development of Northern Nigeria.”

The SDP chairman described insecurity as one of the major challenges hindering development in Northern Nigeria. He said, “Insecurity is a major challenge in the North and one of the factors contributing to the region’s underdevelopment. If SDP candidates win the elections, they will take appropriate measures to improve security and promote peace.”

Safana added, “The purpose of politics is to gain leadership positions in order to address the needs and aspirations of the people effectively. However, there is a need for leaders to refocus on serving the public rather than prioritising their personal interests, those of their families, and their close associates.”

He also expressed concern about the way some leaders govern, stating, “Rather than focusing on serving the people, it is unfortunate that some public office holders engage in disputes with their opponents or take actions that restrict their rights. Anyone entrusted with leadership should serve the entire population without discrimination.”

Safana also questioned whether the All Progressives Congress (APC) had fulfilled its promises to Nigerians. He said, “If the APC fulfils the promises it made, the people may re-elect it. However, if it fails to do so, that could affect its chances in the 2027 elections.”

He emphasised that, “The Emir of Katsina spoke what the SDP considers to be the truth in his remarks, and anyone who desires truth and Nigeria’s development should reflect on such statements.” He also called on political leaders to prioritise the interests of the people when formulating policies and carrying out their responsibilities.

The press conference served as an opportunity for the SDP to state its position on leadership, security, and the challenges facing Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections. The party reaffirmed the need for honest and accountable leadership, as well as practical measures to improve the lives of people in Katsina State and across Nigeria.
