Katsina Lawmakers Defect to APC as Loyalists Stand Firm with PDP

Three members of the House of Representatives from Katsina State defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on May 8, 2025.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the defecting lawmakers are Hon. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, Hon. Aliyu Iliyasu Ruma, and Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai. The defection was witnessed by Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, who welcomed the lawmakers into the APC family.

The Governor, accompanied by notable dignitaries, including former Governor Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Shema and APC State Chairman Alhaji Muhammad Sani Aliyu Daura, expressed enthusiasm about the defection, citing it as a sign of unity and confidence in the party’s leadership.

However, not all of Hon. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri’s loyalists are following him to the APC. Some, including Hon. Salisu Uli and Barrister Mahuta, have reaffirmed their commitment to the PDP and Dr. Mustapha M. Inuwa’s political journey. Hon. Salisu Uli stated that they will not leave the PDP, citing the party’s values and Dr. Inuwa’s leadership.

Dr. Mustapha M. Inuwa expressed gratitude to Hon. Salisu Uli and his followers for their loyalty and commitment. He emphasized the need for the community to find its own path and contribute to its cause, hinting that the current political situation requires careful consideration.

The defection of the three lawmakers has sparked a significant shift in Katsina State’s political landscape. While some have chosen to follow Hon. Majigiri to the APC, others remain committed to the PDP, setting the stage for an interesting political future in the state.
