SDP Reaffirms Commitment to Change, Rejects Merger Proposals

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reiterated its stance against any merger or ‘clean slate’ collaborations, emphasizing its role as a credible alternative for positive change in Nigeria. This declaration was made during a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) on April 8, 2025, where party leaders discussed strategies for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba, the National Publicity Secretary, conveyed the party’s commitment to fostering good governance and social justice. The SDP aims to build a national consensus that addresses the current challenges facing Nigeria, positioning itself as a platform for citizens who seek a better life and sustainable development.

The NWC outlined plans to strengthen both local and diaspora structures to enhance the party’s readiness for multi-level engagement. This strategic expansion is intended to ensure that the SDP is well-prepared to compete effectively in the next elections, demonstrating its dedication to the democratic process.

In a bid to attract new members, the SDP has simplified its membership registration process at the state level. The party is open to welcoming all patriotic politicians and young Nigerians, aiming to create an inclusive environment that fosters participation and engagement in the political landscape.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that Aiyenigba announced that the party is working on upgrading its registration system to incorporate advanced features for membership management. This upgrade will facilitate the harmonization and revalidation of both old and new members, ensuring a seamless integration process across the country.

The SDP calls on all Nigerians to maintain their faith in the party as a beacon of hope amidst the socio-economic challenges currently facing the nation. The party is determined to provide a viable platform for change and is committed to addressing the pressing issues that affect the lives of citizens.
