The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Katsina State has announced its refusal to support any corrupt politicians seeking candidacy for the upcoming 2027 elections. This decision underscores the party’s commitment to fostering good leadership and restoring the integrity of governance in the region.
Mustapha Mohammed Kurfi, the party’s secretary, articulated this position during an interview on Hikaya TV’s Dimokuradiyya program. He emphasized that the SDP aims to revive the reputation of Katsina State and Nigeria by distancing itself from politicians who have historically engaged in corrupt practices.
Kurfi outlined the criteria for candidates wishing to run under the SDP party, stating that they must be reputable individuals within their communities, educated, and self-employed. He expressed a strong disapproval of those who treat political endeavors as profit-making ventures, asserting that genuine public service should be the priority.
Additionally, Kurfi insisted that prospective candidates must present a clear manifesto detailing their objectives for community service if elected. He reiterated the party’s mission to cultivate leaders capable of rectifying the damage inflicted by previous administrations, thereby benefiting future generations.
“Our focus is on creating leaders who can amend the wrongs of the past,” Kurfi stated. He highlighted that the SDP in Katsina is distinct from other state branches across Nigeria, rooted in initiatives like the Katsina Initiative Development and Accountability (KIDA) and the Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP).
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the leadership team of the SDP in Katsina, which includes Kurfi and other key figures, is characterized by their integrity and entrepreneurial spirit. Kurfi noted that all party leaders are well-educated and run self-sustaining businesses, reinforcing the party’s commitment to ethical governance.
Political analysts suggest that the SDP’s proactive measures could significantly influence the political landscape in Katsina State, potentially leading to the emergence of competent leaders who prioritize the welfare of the community over personal gain.
