Kano Police Engage Social Media Influencers on Responsible Content Creation

The Kano State Police Command has emphasized the crucial role of social media in promoting inter-ethnic harmony and national unity.

This message was conveyed during a two-day seminar organized by the Social Media Awareness and Promotion Development Association (SMAPDA) on February 21-22, 2025, at Al-Murjan Hall, Bristol Palace Kano.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa commended social media influencers for their contributions to peace and stability. He cautioned them against spreading fake news, hate speeches, and negative content, urging them instead to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and understanding among different ethnic groups.

The seminar, attended by influencers with over 50 million followers, scholars, community leaders, and stakeholders, discussed social media’s role in promoting national development. The Kano State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and properties, and promoting community-oriented policing.

The public, especially social media influencers, were encouraged to support the Police in ensuring a safe and secure environment. This collaborative approach is essential in promoting national unity and preventing the spread of misinformation.

By engaging social media influencers, the Kano State Police Command aims to harness the power of social media to promote peace, stability, and national development. This initiative is a step in the right direction, and its success will depend on the continued collaboration between the Police, social media influencers, and the public.
