North West Development Commission (NWDC) has assured Nigerians, particularly residents of the affected states in the region, of its commitment to addressing insecurity, out-of-school children, rural water supply, and the overall deterioration of infrastructure and development in the seven states of the North West.
The Chairmen of the North West Development Commission Committees in both chambers, Senator Babangida Husaini (Jigawa North West) and Hon. Su LLPlaiman Abubakar Gumi, provided this assurance in separate interviews regarding the commission’s priorities in the near future.
Meanwhile, Senator Babangida Husaini expressed his gratitude, on behalf of the Senate leadership and the people of the region, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating and signing into law the bill establishing the commission for sustainable development in the North West.
He described the initiative as a remarkable idea that will drive the much-needed development and transformation in the region, fostering collective efforts for progress and growth.
“The job of the committee is clearly defined. Everyone is aware of the challenges facing the North West region, including insecurity, the issue of out-of-school children, the Almajiri education system, inadequate rural water supply, and infrastructural decay caused by insurgent activities,” he stated.
The chairman further explained that the committee had already met with the Dean of the Governors’ Forum for the seven states in the region, Governor Malam Dikko Radda of Katsina State.
He added that they have taken note of his advice to prioritize these critical challenges as key areas of serious concern.
Similarly, in his remark, the Co-Chairman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, said the Board of Directors of the commission, during a courtesy visit to the Speaker, Hon. Abbas Tajuddeen, was advised to address the challenges with utmost seriousness.
The Speaker assured his full support for the commission to effectively deliver on its mandate.
He also urged the Board members to consider the multiple challenges affecting the entire North as a serious threat to the region’s development and to take the necessary steps to bring relief to the people.
