The Catholic Bishop of Katsina Diocese, Most Reverend Gerald Musa, has called on the general public to support the government’s efforts in fighting insecurity in Nigeria. Speaking during his 2025 New Year message in Katsina, Bishop Musa emphasized that security is everyone’s business and should not be left to the government alone.
Bishop Musa urged citizens to report any suspicious activities or individuals supporting criminals in their hideouts. He stressed the importance of collective action in fighting insecurity, stating that there are people benefiting from the current insecurity who must be brought to justice.
The Bishop commended the cooperation among governors in the northwest region in addressing security challenges. He noted that their efforts to synergize and share intelligence across border areas are commendable.
However, Bishop Musa also called on governments at all levels to identify the root causes of insecurity and find lasting solutions. He highlighted unemployment as a significant factor, stating that jobless youth are being recruited by questionable characters to perpetrate insecurity.
To address this, Bishop Musa urged governments to create an enabling environment for job creation, ensuring better economic prosperity and protecting vulnerable youth from exploitation.
HIKAYA NEWSPAPER reports that the Bishop’s call to action emphasizes the need for collective efforts in combating insecurity in Nigeria. By working together, citizens and governments can identify and address the root causes of insecurity, promoting a safer and more prosperous future for all.
