Pantami Challenges Gombe Governorship Candidate ‘Consensus’

Former Minister of Communications, Isa Ali Pantami, has said he will take all legal steps to challenge the process used in selecting the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Gombe State.

This follows the emergence of Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna as the APC governorship candidate through a consensus arrangement, which Pantami described as not following due process.

In an interview with the BBC, Pantami explained that a valid consensus requires the approval of all aspirants, which he said did not happen in Gombe. He noted that each aspirant must personally agree or send a representative, and there must be a lawful agreement.

He added that none of these conditions were met, and therefore the process cannot be regarded as a true consensus. He said he is ready to participate in a primary election if necessary.

Recently, there has been public debate on social media about Pantami’s political activities, especially after he renewed his APC membership in Gombe State and toured parts of the city to seek public support.

Although he previously served as a minister under the late Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, many people still see him more as a communications expert than a politician. However, he is now becoming more active in politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
