Breaking: Obi, Kwankwaso join NDC
Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a new step in their political journey ahead of the 2027 elections.
The two leaders were officially registered as members of the party on Sunday at its national secretariat in Abuja, where they were issued membership cards. Their registration confirmed their full entry into the party in the presence of officials and supporters.
Video from the event showed Kwankwaso receiving his membership card first, followed by Obi. The move came shortly after Obi resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal challenges, while Kwankwaso had earlier said he was consulting widely about his political future.
Before their formal registration, both leaders held a closed-door meeting with top NDC figures at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson. The meeting was seen as part of efforts to unite opposition groups ahead of future elections.
Supporters gathered at the venue to welcome the leaders, chanting in support as they arrived. Observers say the development shows increasing political activity among opposition figures as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
