The Katsina State Government has taken a significant step in supporting victims of banditry, providing 38 million Naira to affected families in some Areas of Musawa and Sabuwa local governments.
This financial support is part of the government’s efforts to combat terrorism, armed robbery, animal theft, and kidnapping, while showing compassion to victims. The beneficiaries include families of those killed, injured, kidnapped, or affected by bandit attacks.
Hon. Saidu Ibrahim Danja ‘Kogunan Jibia’, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Victims of Banditry and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), led the disbursements of the donation. He explained that the government provides:
1. ₦1 million to families of military, police, or Community Watch Corps officers who lost their lives
2. ₦500,000 to families of Vigilant officers who lost their lives
3. ₦200,000 to wounded officers and civilians who were killed by the terrorists
4. ₦100,000 to those civilian’s families who were kidnapped by bandits
5. ₦50,000 to those wounded civilian after receiving government-sponsored treatment.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda instructed that refugee children be repatriated and admitted to nearby schools, with the government providing educational materials, including books, uniforms, and bags.
Hon. Ahmad Surajo, Secretary of Musawa Local Government, praised the government’s efforts, assuring continued support to end security challenges. Hon. Faruq Hayatu, President of Sabuwa Local Government, commended the governor’s efforts, urging more action to overcome insecurity.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the beneficiaries expressed gratitude and vowed to use the support wisely. They appreciated the government’s sympathy and concern for affected families.
The donation ceremony, held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Musawa and Sabuwa local governments’ conference hall, was attended by politicians, traditional leaders, security officers, among others.
This relief effort demonstrates the Katsina State Government’s commitment to supporting victims of terrorism and addressing security challenges.
