KATSACA and Gov’s Wife Hold Health Awareness Outreach

The Katsina State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (KATSACA), in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor of Katsina State, Hajiya Fatima Dikko Radda, founder of the Pledging Aid Charity Foundation (PAC-F), has organized a health awareness outreach on HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer and breast cancer, alongside the distribution of MAMA Kits to 100 pregnant women in Kankia Local Government Area of the state.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the outreach was held on Monday, 22 December 2025, at the Galadima Government Primary Health Care Centre in Kankia town.

The programme focused on improving maternal and child health through education on disease prevention, early detection, and the importance of regular antenatal care for pregnant women.

In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of KATSACA, Dr. Bala Nuhu (Sadaukin Kankia), emphasized the importance of community sensitization on how to prevent HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer and breast cancer.

He noted that awareness, early screening and timely medical intervention remain the most effective strategies for reducing illness and mortality, and encouraged pregnant women to patronize health facilities for routine check-ups and professional guidance. He confirmed that 100 pregnant women benefited from the MAMA Kits provided by the Governor’s Wife to support safe and hospital-based deliveries.

Health experts also delivered technical presentations during the programme. Dr. Farida Salisu Mai’adua presented a paper on cervical cancer prevention, highlighting the importance of personal hygiene, regular screening such as Pap smear tests, HPV vaccination, and the avoidance of high-risk behaviors. She stressed that early detection significantly increases chances of successful treatment, particularly among women of reproductive age.

Similarly, Hussaina Mustapha Usman delivered a lecture on breast cancer prevention and awareness, with a special focus on young and lactating mothers. She educated participants on breast self-examination, the need for periodic clinical checks, and the importance of seeking medical attention immediately after noticing unusual changes in the breast, warning against delays caused by fear or misinformation.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Kankia Local Government Area and the member of the Katsina State House of Assembly representing Kankia commended the Katsina State Government under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umar Radda for its sustained investment in healthcare delivery. They noted that initiatives such as the outreach contribute significantly to reducing maternal and disease-related deaths and improving overall public health outcomes across the state.

The event attracted several dignitaries and stakeholders, including the representative of the District Head of Kankia, officials of the Drug and Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA) and the Katsina State Community Health Management Agency (KACHMA), community leaders, traditional and religious leaders, as well as KATSACA staff. Other resource persons who presented papers included Dr. Gaddafi and Hajiya Zainab Sharif, all of whom are experts in disease prevention, particularly HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer and breast cancer.
