Katsina Exco Approves Key Projects to Boost Water Supply, Others

The Katsina State Executive Council has approved a series of strategic projects aimed at expanding access to clean water, supporting agricultural processing, strengthening housing development, and deepening reforms in the health and education sectors.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the approvals were granted during the council’s 18th regular meeting held Wednesday at the General Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina, and chaired by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, said the council approved a small-town water scheme for Tsagero in Rimi Local Government Area to provide steady potable water to the community. He added that the council also endorsed the establishment of the Dr. Dikko Radda Cassava/Gari Processing Centre in Batsari to promote cassava production and agro-processing, along with the supply and installation of equipment for 28 departments at the Katsina Youth Craft Village to enhance youth skills and employability.

The council further approved construction of 150 completed housing units and 350 serviced plots in the state capital to address housing needs. Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, announced the introduction of a ₦30,000 per term rural teachers’ allowance and the establishment of three Teacher Development Centres in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua to strengthen teacher capacity. Trainers will be drawn from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Isah Kaita College of Education, and experienced retired teachers.

Special Adviser on Tertiary Health Institutions, Umar Mammada, said the council approved new measures to supervise and monitor private health facilities to ensure compliance with standards, while Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Dr. Faisal Kaita, announced the immediate implementation of updated master plans for Katsina, Funtua, and Daura. The council also approved the 2026 Business Enabling Reform Action Plan to improve the ease of doing business. The approvals, officials said, are aligned with Governor Radda’s “Building Your Future” agenda to create a more inclusive and progressive Katsina State.
