The All Progressives Congress (APC) North-West Zone has commenced a public hearing on the review and amendment of the party’s constitution, describing the exercise as a significant step toward renewal, strengthening democratic structures, and consolidating unity within the party across Nigeria.
The event, held at the Banquet Hall of the Muhammadu Buhari Government House in Katsina, brought together key APC leaders and stakeholders from the North-West geopolitical zone, including members of the National Assembly, Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, State Party Chairmen, members of the Constitution Review Committee, and other senior officials to deliberate on proposed amendments aimed at enhancing transparency, inclusivity, and accountability within the party.
In his opening remarks, Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State, who also serves as the Chairman of the North-West Governors’ Forum, described the event as personally significant to him, recalling his role as a pioneer member of the APC National Working Committee and one of those who drafted the first APC Constitution under Chief John Oyegun.
He emphasized that the review was not about individuals but about principles and the long-term stability of the party, adding that the North-West must lead the process with integrity, foresight, and unity.
Representing Yobe State Governor and Chairman of the APC Constitution Review Committee, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba, Chairman of the Cross River State APC, commended Governor Radda for hosting the zonal hearing and noted that the 2022 version of the constitution no longer adequately reflects the party’s current structure and realities.
He disclosed that the ongoing consultations across the country have generated hundreds of submissions aimed at producing a progressive and inclusive constitution that reflects the collective will of APC members nationwide.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that earlier in his welcome address, Katsina State APC Chairman, Alhaji Sani Aliyu Ahmed Daura, described the review exercise as a clear demonstration of the APC’s commitment to internal growth, unity, and long-term stability.
He commended Governor Radda for his visionary leadership in transforming Katsina State through reforms in education, health, agriculture, and social welfare. The event was attended by government officials, legislators, APC state chairmen from the seven North-West states, and other dignitaries from across Nigeria.
