Grand Khadi Commends Gov Radda for Upholding Judiciary

The Grand Khadi of Katsina State, Professor Mohammed Kabir Abubakar, has commended Governor Dikko Umar Radda for the timely release of funds to the state judiciary, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of his commitment to upholding judicial autonomy in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Mu’awiya Bala Usman reports that the made the commendation during the opening ceremony of the 2025/2026 (1447 A.H.) Sharia Legal Year held in Katsina.

Professor Abubakar stated that Governor Radda’s compliance with constitutional requirements reflects his respect for the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary. He also appreciated the State House of Assembly for its continued support toward strengthening Islamic justice in the state. The Grand Khadi, however, appealed to the government to review and increase allowances for overseas training and seminars for judicial staff, citing inflation and exchange rate fluctuations as major challenges.

Reviewing the court’s performance, Professor Abubakar disclosed that the Katsina State Sharia Court of Appeal recorded significant progress in case registration and disposal during the year under review. He noted that the welfare of judicial staff received priority attention through the payment of entitlements, promotion of junior officers to higher grade levels, and recommendation of senior staff to the Judicial Service Commission for advancement. He further revealed that the Court organized seminars and workshops in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI) and successfully completed the construction of a new auditorium and chambers for newly appointed Khadis.

Professor Abubakar also announced plans to review the Sharia Court of Appeal Rules following recommendations from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Funtua branch. He expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship between the Bar and the Bench in the state and revealed that the Sharia Commission will soon be revived, with new members expected to be inaugurated to resume official duties.
