Presidency dismisses El-Rufai’s claim on Tinubu

The Presidency has declared that President Bola Tinubu has no plan to remain in office beyond May 28, 2031, if re-elected in 2027. This comes as a response to remarks made by former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed El-Rufai’s allegation made during a condolence visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. El-Rufai had likened Tinubu to Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, who has remained in power since 1982.

Onanuga described the claim as baseless, stressing that Tinubu is a democrat. He added that the President will leave office on May 28, 2031, if he wins re-election in 2027, noting that there is no plan for him to stay in power indefinitely.
