Police Rescue Five Kidnap Victims, Neutralize Gang

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its fight against crime with recent operations in Kebbi and Abia States that led to the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the dismantling of a notorious kidnapping gang, and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the Force said the operations reflect its continuous efforts to bolster internal security and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

In Kebbi State, police operatives, working with other security agencies and local vigilantes, rescued three victims abducted from Sangara Village in Shanga LGA on July 27, 2025. The kidnappers were tracked to Shanga Hills, where they were engaged in a fierce gun battle and forced to flee with gunshot wounds, allowing the victims to be freed unharmed. In a separate operation on August 15 in Danko/Wasagu LGA, two other kidnap victims were rescued after operatives engaged armed bandits near Dankade Village. The duo, abducted earlier in Zamfara State, have since reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, in Abia State, operatives acting on intelligence raided a kidnappers’ den at Umuiku Obete Village in Ukwa West LGA. A gun duel ensued, resulting in the neutralization of five gang members. A search of the hideout led to the recovery of six AK-47 rifles, 335 rounds of ammunition, 14 magazines, handsets, cutlasses, operational jackets, an axe, boots, charms, and a double-barreled gun. Police confirmed that follow-up operations are underway to track down fleeing members of the gang.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, said the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers for their bravery and urged them to sustain the momentum. He reassured Nigerians of the Force’s determination to intensify its onslaught against criminal actors nationwide and maintain law and order across the country.
