Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has inaugurated a state taskforce committee on voter registration, charging members to ensure that the number of registered voters in the state reaches 10 million at the end of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Farouk Umar, the governor gave the directive while inaugurating the 36-member committee chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Comrade Abdullahi Waiya. He stressed that the committee must mobilize citizens to obtain their voter’s cards, describing the card as a vital instrument for exercising civic responsibilities and choosing leaders.
Governor Yusuf noted that Kano currently has about five million registered voters, adding that the committee’s target is to double the figure through aggressive sensitization and mobilisation campaigns across the state. He urged members to adopt effective strategies to ensure mass participation.
While reiterating his administration’s commitment to support the process, the governor also called on the committee to discharge its duties with fairness and transparency. He emphasized that no eligible citizen should be denied registration on the basis of background, ethnicity, or religion.
