Kano Security Agencies Map Out Strategy for Peaceful Re-run, By-elections

The Kano State Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) has reviewed security deployments and outlined a comprehensive strategy to ensure peaceful conduct of the forthcoming Re-run election for Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency and the By-election for Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency, scheduled for Saturday, 16th August 2025.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the meeting, held on Wednesday at the Office of the Co-chair, Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, brought together heads and representatives of security agencies to fine-tune preparations for the polls.

In his opening remarks, the Co-chair of ICCES and Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, described the meeting as critical for evaluating past election security operations, identifying successes and challenges, and refining strategies for the upcoming polls. He commended the synergy among security agencies, applauding their dedication to maintaining peace and order in Kano State. “This meeting is essential for us to come together to evaluate the security strategies used in previous elections… and refine our deployments to guarantee peaceful Re-run and By-elections,” he said.

The Chairman of ICCES and Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Amb. Zango Abdul, mni, also praised the collaborative efforts of the security agencies, crediting the Nigeria Police Force for leading security coordination, the military for their swift response to emergencies, the DSS for intelligence sharing, and other agencies for their commitment to safeguarding the electoral process. He urged ICCES members to remain neutral, apolitical, and focused on creating an enabling environment for free, fair, and credible elections.

According to a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the meeting was attended by representatives from INEC, Police, Army, Air Force, DSS, NSCDC, Immigration, Customs, Correctional Service, NDLEA, FRSC, EFCC, Fire Service, Defence Intelligence Agency, and NYSC.

The Kano State Police Command assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property before, during, and after the elections, urging citizens to carry out their civic duties peacefully and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
