Kano Assembly Suspends Rano LG Chairman

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Rano Local Government Area, Muhammad Nazir Yau, for three months to allow for a thorough investigation into allegations of abuse of office, misconduct, and diversion of public resources.

Hikaya Newspaper the allegations were presented to the Assembly by councillors of the local government.

The suspension followed the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by the Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Hussaini, during the Assembly’s sitting on Wednesday. The report outlined some of the allegations, including instigating disunity between political leaders and councillors, distributing government palliatives only to his political allies, and selling government fertilizer above the approved price of ₦20,000.

The Assembly stated that the move would enable the committee to conduct an in-depth investigation to ascertain the truth of the allegations before taking further action.

It also directed the Kano State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to instruct the Vice Chairman of Rano Local Government to take over leadership until the investigation is concluded.
