Katsina to Establishes State Electricity Supply Agency

The Katsina State House of Assembly has approved a bill for the establishment of the State Electricity Supply Agency during its sitting on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, under the leadership of the Speaker, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the bill received the Assembly’s approval following the presentation of a report by the Committee on Community Development and Social Welfare, chaired by Hon. Mustapha Tukur Ruma, with the Majority Leader, Hon. Shamsuddeen Abubakar Dabai, leading the third and final reading for its passage.

According to Hon. Dabai, the establishment of the agency will improve the provision of electricity to communities with ease through the use of modern and efficient equipment. After the bill was approved, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to forward a complete copy to the State Governor for assent.

During the same Tuesday sitting, the Assembly also approved amendments to Sections 7, 8, and 14, as well as the Second Schedule of the law establishing the State House of Assembly Service Commission (Law No. 5 of 2018). The approval followed the presentation of a report by a special committee chaired by Hon. Umar Ali Bindawa.

Similarly, the Assembly approved a motion moved by Hon. Sha’aibu Wakili, representing Kafur Constituency, seeking the rehabilitation of electricity supply routes from Malumfashi to Yartalata, Tagwayen Marke, Dantutture, Dankanjiba, Kurmi, Nasarawa, and Gamzago, all in Kafur Local Government Area. After deliberation and approval, the Speaker directed the Clerk to forward the motion to the executive arm for further action.
