The Ministry of Information and National Orientation has taken note of concerns raised by media stakeholders over the suspension of Badegi FM, a radio station in Minna, Niger State.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the suspension was ordered by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, citing allegations of unethical broadcasting and incitement against the government.
The directive was issued during an expanded Niger State APC Caucus Meeting in Minna on August 1, which the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation attended. The Ministry acknowledges the concerns raised, but notes that the suspension of broadcasting licenses falls within the purview of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The Ministry welcomes the decision of the Niger State Government to formally report the perceived “unethical behavior” of Badegi FM to the NBC for resolution. This move is seen as a step towards resolving the issue through established channels.
The Minister appeals to all parties to remain calm, assuring that the NBC has the necessary mechanisms to resolve the issue in a fair and impartial manner. This appeal aims to prevent further escalation and promote a peaceful resolution.
The Ministry’s stance underscores the importance of adhering to established procedures in resolving disputes. The NBC’s involvement is expected to bring clarity and fairness to the situation, ensuring that the rights of all parties are respected and protected.
