Buhari Family Thanks for Support During Mourning

The family of the late President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu, and the Federal Government for the overwhelming support before and after the former president’s passing.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that speaking on behalf of the family, the most senior member, Malam Mamman Daura, said the solidarity shown by the President, Vice President Kashim Shettima who personally visited them in the UK and Daura along with ministers and other top officials, helped the family face the painful loss with courage.

Daura particularly thanked President Tinubu for declaring a public holiday in honor of Buhari and renaming the University of Maiduguri after him. He also acknowledged global leaders for their condolences, including King Charles III, UN Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, the African Union, ECOWAS Heads of State, and former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar. He described the loss as “irreparable,” but said the compassion shown by people around the world had been a great source of strength to the family.

The family extended gratitude to Vice President Shettima and his wife, as well as state governors such as Dr. Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina and Professor Babagana Zulum of Borno, among others from across the country. Former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, Yemi Osinbajo, and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe were also appreciated, alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajuddeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and other lawmakers at national and state levels.
