Former President Buhari Laid to Rest in Daura

Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a hospital in London, has been laid to rest at his private residence in Daura, Katsina State. His remains arrived Katsina at about 2:00 p.m. and were transported by road to Daura around 3:40 p.m.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the funeral prayer, led by the Chief Imam of Daura, Sheikh Salisu Rabiu, was held at the helipad area of the town.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima were among thousands of mourners who attended the burial rites. Also in attendance were Chadian President Muhammed Debby, President Umaru Sasseko of Guinea Bissau, and Niger Republic’s Prime Minister, Ali Muhammane. The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, along with serving and former governors, ministers, and other prominent dignitaries were present to pay their last respects.

A ceremonial military gun salute was conducted in Buhari’s honour between 5:32 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. before his body was laid to rest around 6:00 p.m. The former Nigerian leader served as President from 2015 to 2023 and is remembered for his influence on the nation’s political and security landscape.
