The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment and dismissed rumors suggesting that some of its key members are planning to defect to a newly formed coalition party.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that this declaration was made during a special meeting convened by the party to clarify its political position and readiness to reclaim power in the upcoming 2027 elections.
At the meeting held at the PDP State Secretariat in Katsina, party leaders from ward, local government, and state levels expressed their full loyalty to the party, stating that there was no change of direction or loss of confidence in their political journey. Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke stated that the PDP is fully prepared and strategically positioned to restore dignity and development in Katsina State if given another opportunity by the people.
The Senator also criticized those spreading rumors about defections, claiming that such individuals had failed to win their polling units in previous elections and therefore lack political relevance within the party. He added, “Those who couldn’t win their own polling units in the PDP are now calling themselves members of a coalition – like wandering beans with no roots.”
The Katsina State PDP Chairman, Hon. Nuraddeen Amadi Kurfi, emphasized that PDP remains the only people-oriented party not just in Katsina State but across the country. Despite the challenges the party faced over the past ten years, he noted that the PDP still achieved victories in the 2023 elections, maintaining that “The PDP will not die in Nigeria.”
The party’s organizing secretary, Hon. Ali Haro, explained that the meeting followed extensive consultations with stakeholders at all levels and was aimed at reaffirming their united stance. He stressed that the PDP has no intention of merging with any coalition, as it has the structure, capacity, and track record to stand on its own.
In addition to party leaders, the meeting was attended by supporters from various parts of the state, including a group of women who recently defected from the APC to the PDP further strengthening the party’s momentum. The PDP reiterated its commitment to continue holding consultations and enlightening the public in preparation to reclaim governance in the 2027 elections.
