More than 60,000 members and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Jega Local Government Area in Kebbi State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They were formally received by Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Aminu Mustapha, the former ADC Coordinator in Jega Local Government Area and a former House of Representatives aspirant for the Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency, said their decision to join the APC was influenced by what he described as the achievements of Governor Nasir Idris’ administration and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He said the APC has demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare of Nigerians and enjoys broad grassroots support across the country.
Other representatives of the defectors said they were inspired by the leadership style, developmental achievements, and people-oriented policies of Governor Nasir Idris and President Tinubu. They pledged their loyalty to the APC and assured the Governor of their full support.
In his response, Governor Nasir Idris welcomed the new members and thanked them for their confidence in the APC. He assured them that they would enjoy the same rights, opportunities, and privileges as every other party member, while urging them to remain united and committed to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering development in key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, rural development, road infrastructure, and youth and women empowerment. The event was attended by the Acting APC State Chairman, members of the State Executive Council, party leaders, and other stakeholders.
