Shettima warns APC aspirants against division ahead of 2027

Vice President Kashim Shettima has advised aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to weaken the party if they lose during the primaries for the 2027 elections. In a message titled “2027: Don’t pull down the roof,” he urged party members to remain united despite differences in ambition and interests.

He said although there are different goals, supporters, and political calculations, all members belong to one political family. He warned against being misled by rumors, media pressure, or individuals who benefit from division, noting that such tactics are often used to create conflict within parties.

The Vice President explained that in any political contest, only one candidate will emerge, and this should be accepted as part of democracy. He said losing a primary election does not always mean injustice, but rather the normal outcome of a competitive process.

He added that true leadership is shown not only in victory but also in how people react to defeat. According to him, it takes strong character to accept disappointment and remain committed to the party’s goals.

Shettima also spoke about endorsements, saying they are common in politics but should not lead to pressure or exclusion. He called on party leaders to be fair and ensure that all aspirants are treated with respect, while delegates should be allowed to make decisions freely and transparently.

He concluded by urging party members to remain patient, disciplined, and united, stressing that internal unity is key to success. He reminded them that today’s opponent in a primary election could become an ally in the general election, and warned that destroying the party out of anger would harm everyone involve.
