9 LGs Defend 2026 Budgets in 3 Days at Katsina Assembly

Nine local government councils have defended their 2026 budget proposals in three days before the Katsina State House of Assembly.

The budget defence sessions began on Monday, 23 February 2026, as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability and good governance at the grassroots level. The exercise is being conducted by the House Committee on Local Governments and Emirates Affairs.

The committee is chaired by Ibrahim Danjuma Machika, the member representing Sabuwa Constituency. He led other lawmakers in reviewing the financial proposals and asking questions on revenue sources, priority projects and implementation plans for 2026.

On the first day, Baure, Zango and Sandamu Local Government Councils appeared before the committee to present and defend their budgets. The chairmen and their management teams explained their expected income and outlined development projects planned for their communities.

On the second day, Tuesday, 24 February 2026, Mai’adua, Daura and Mashi Local Government Councils also defended their estimates. Bindawa, Mani and Ingawa Local Government Councils later appeared within the three-day exercise to present their budget proposals and respond to questions from lawmakers.

Other committee members present included Lawal Isah Kuraye, Mustapha Rabe Musa, Abubakar Suleiman Tunas, Mustapha Sani Bello, Sale Magaji Ruma, Shu’aibu Zayyana Bujawa, Abdulrahman Ahmed Kandarawa and Shu’aibu Wakili. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the committee secretary, journalists, the Director of Legal Services of the House and members of the public also attended the sessions.
