NEMA to Boost Emergency Response

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received specialized communication equipment from SpaceX Starlink to strengthen emergency response and disaster management operations across Nigeria.

The Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, announced the development in a post on her Facebook page. She said the donation from the satellite internet service provider would help improve communication during emergencies, especially in remote and underserved communities.

According to her, Vice President commended the partnership between NEMA and SpaceX Starlink during a meeting held after the equipment was received. The Vice President also assured representatives of the company, led by , that the donated equipment would be used effectively and responsibly.

Umar disclosed that the donation consists of 91 standard and mini communication boxes designed to address some of the major communication challenges faced by NEMA in managing emergencies in hard-to-reach areas across the country. She noted that reliable communication remains critical to effective disaster response and coordination.

She added that the equipment would be deployed to 50 strategic flashpoints nationwide, while NEMA’s command-and-control centre would also be upgraded to improve emergency intervention operations. According to her, the development will enhance the agency’s capacity to respond quickly and efficiently to disasters and other emergency situations in Nigeria.
