Women in the Daura Zone have showcased their handicrafts at the 13th annual handicraft exhibition in Daura, aimed at promoting women’s businesses and encouraging them to expand their economic activities.
The exhibition was held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, and organised by Katsina Aliyos Consultancy Trade Promoters Co-operative Society Limited, led by Alhaji Aliyu Rulwanu Masanawa, in collaboration with the Katsina State Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Investment.
Representing the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Bala Salisu Zango, commended the organisation and the ministry for their collaboration in organising the event. He said the exhibition provides small-scale business owners with an opportunity to promote their products more easily and encouraged women and other members of the public to continue developing their handicraft businesses.
The organisation’s Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Rulwanu Masanawa, described the event as an important opportunity for women in the Daura Zone to display products they make from their homes. He said the annual exhibition was established to promote the exchange of products among women entrepreneurs and create opportunities for them to expand their businesses.
Masanawa added that the organisation had expanded its activities to the Republic of Niger and was working across different parts of Katsina State to educate women on ways to market their products and develop their businesses. He also commended Governor Radda for his efforts to provide financial support to small and medium-scale business owners.
In his remarks, the representative of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Bishir Tanimu Gambo, urged women to pay greater attention to handicrafts. He said handicraft businesses could provide a means of self-reliance, create employment opportunities and enable women to employ other people.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Hon. Yusuf Rabi’u Jirdede, also commended Governor Dikko Umar Radda for providing funds to support residents of the state. He stressed the importance of the exhibition to women operating small businesses and urged beneficiaries of government financial support to use the funds for the purposes for which they were provided and to develop their businesses.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Investment, Hajiya A’isha Abdullahi, commended the organisation for organising the exhibition. She encouraged women to take handicrafts seriously, saying that having a business can help women become economically independent and meet their personal and family needs.
The event was attended by local government chairmen and their representatives, including the Chairman of Mashi Local Government Area and the representative of the Chairman of Daura Local Government Area. Representatives of the chairmen of Mai’adua, Zango, Baure, Sandamu, Dutsi, Mani, Kankiya, Kusada, Ingawa and Bindawa local government areas were also present. The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, was represented by Hon. Aminu Mazo.
The event also attracted men and women from different communities, security personnel and journalists. The exhibition provided an opportunity to encourage women to develop handicrafts, promote their products and access opportunities that could help expand their businesses and contribute to the economic development of their communities.
