Umar Abdullahi Tata has emerged as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the House of Representatives seat representing Dutsinma and Kurfi Federal Constituency in Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that, Tata described the victory as his first political win since joining politics in 2010.
In a statement Thursday, Tata said he secured the party’s nomination through the consent of other contestants, whom he described as reasonable and responsible politicians ready to make sacrifices for the progress of the party. He noted that he became the first ADC candidate for a federal constituency in Katsina State to secure nomination so far.
The ADC candidate thanked fellow aspirants, including Abdullahi Magaji Mohammed, Dr Ahmed Hamza and Aminu Musa Shekarau, for stepping down and supporting him. He promised not to fail the people of Dutsinma and Kurfi if elected to represent them at the National Assembly.
Tata also appreciated members of the Tata Solidarity Organisation (TDO), saying they encouraged him to begin the political journey that led to his nomination. He explained that he initially aimed for a wider political position but accepted the opportunity to start by representing the two local government areas, describing it as the will of God.
He further thanked his family, friends, supporters, and the people of Dutsinma and Kurfi for their contributions and support toward his success. Tata said although he is an administrator, he also understands the law and would use his experience to provide quality representation for the constituency.
The politician also described Dan Arewa as a friend and not an enemy, while calling for peaceful political competition ahead of the elections. He prayed for success and expressed confidence that the journey would lead to greater achievements in the future.
