Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the affirmation exercise took place at the APC headquarters in Bichi with thousands of party members from the 13 local government areas in the district in attendance.
Officials from the APC national headquarters and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission also attended the exercise. Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the Kano North Senatorial Primary Election, Hon. Shehu Isa Direba, asked party members to affirm Senator Barau as the party’s candidate, and the crowd responded with a loud “Yes.” The Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Kano State, Hon. Musa Yahaya, also confirmed the endorsement by party members.
Speaking after the exercise, the leader of the INEC monitoring team, Abdulrahman Haruna, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly conduct of the process. In his remarks, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, praised the peaceful nature of the exercise and expressed confidence that APC candidates would win the 2027 elections in Kano North.
The governor said Kano North remained a strong base of the APC and urged party members to remain united ahead of the elections. He also expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Barau, and other APC candidates would record victory during the polls.
In his response, Senator Barau thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to continue providing effective representation for the people of Kano North. He also appreciated President Tinubu for his leadership of the country and the APC, saying the President was working for the development of Northern Nigeria.
Barau further praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his efforts to develop Kano State and called on the people of the state to vote for all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections. He urged supporters not to be distracted by criticism and encouraged them to come out in large numbers to support the party at all levels.
