Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, has launched 20,000 metric tons of fertilizer for the 2025 wet season farming, promising continued support for farmers in the state.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the launch ceremony was held in Kusada Local Government Area.
According to Governor Radda, farmers will have access to high-quality fertilizer at subsidized rates of N20,000 per bag, which will enable them to improve crop yields and increase their incomes. He expressed confidence that the initiative would yield positive results, citing the success of a similar program in the previous year that resulted in a significant increase in crop yields and a bumper harvest.
The Governor highlighted other agricultural initiatives undertaken by his administration, including the recent launch of the Katsina State Agricultural Mechanization Centre equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Additionally, the government distributed 4,000 power tillers and 4,000 solar-powered water pumps to farmers across the state, which have greatly improved farming efficiency and productivity.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Professor Ahmed Bakori Muhammed, emphasized that the fertilizer distribution program represents more than just material support, but a crucial step in empowering farmers. He assured that the government is committed to providing high-quality fertilizers at subsidized rates and ensuring equitable access across all farming communities.
The Chairman of Kusada Local Government, Hon. Sani Aminu Dangamu, warned that anyone found diverting fertilizer or colluding to cheat the system would face serious consequences and announced the establishment of a local monitoring committee to ensure fairness and transparency. Other dignitaries who attended the event include the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura’s representative, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji AbdulKadir Nasir Mamman, and Members of the State Executive Council.
Stakeholders, including the Chairman of Boko Fertilizers, Mohammed Sambo Alhassan, and the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Rabo Tambaya, praised Governor Radda’s leadership and commitment to agricultural development, noting that the initiatives have created jobs, ensured food security, and boosted farmers’ incomes.
